Welcome to Wetheral Parish Council

Wetheral Parish is the largest, in terms of population, of the 32 parishes in the Carlisle District. It covers 5518 hectares (13,635 acres) and includes the villages and hamlets of Wetheral, Wetheral Pasture, Scotby, Aglionby, Warwick-on-Eden, Warwick Bridge, Cumwhinton, Cotehill, Stripes, Great Corby, Burnrigg, Broadwath, half of Heads Nook, and also part of Durranhill, including Alexandra Drive, Meadowbrook & Barley Edge.

The Parish has an approximate population of 5771. It might surprise many that this is larger than several towns in Cumbria which also have their own Parish or Town Councils, e.g. Keswick, Appleby, Silloth, Brampton, Alston, Aspatria, Grange-over-Sands etc. The parish's population has expanded by 76% in the last hundred years ,32% of the parish's population are over the age of 60, with about 60 people being over 90 years old. 58% of the population, representing about 3325 people, is over 45 years old. At the other end of the age spectrum, school age children (aged 5 to17) represented just 13% of the population.

Presently 2741 dwellings in Wetheral parish. This will increase over the next 5-10 years by approximately 990 new dwellings. Housing developments are under construction in Scotby, Heads Nook, and Cumwhinton, with a number planned for Wetheral and Durranhill, and an additional 144 homes in Scotby.
